SUMMARY:Lid I-5 Walking Tour: Core Area
DESCRIPTION:See I-5 up close and personal where it cuts through the heart of Seattle\, and learn about the community-led efforts to put a lid on it. \nThis grassroots urban design effort is gaining momentum in the mission to build a more connected\, sustainable\, and equitable city. Join the volunteer-led Lid I-5 Steering Committee on a tour of the Downtown lid study area to experience the dreadful freeway canyon firsthand and hear the latest project details. You’ll see how Seattle’s unique topography and the freeway configuration will influence design\, and walk through existing lids at the Seattle Convention Center and Freeway Park (celebrating its 50th year in 2026!). And you’ll learn about the project’s latest milestones with public policy and funding that are making it happen. \nThis is the shorter tour that looks at the core study area between Madison Street and Denny Way. \nJoin us rain or shine. Comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are encouraged. This walk is approximately 1.5 miles and includes staircases and hillclimbs. \nDonations of $10 per person or more are welcome but not required to participate. Your contribution can help sustain our efforts for the years to come\, through our fiscal partnership with the Seattle Parks Foundation. \nMore about Lid I-5

SUMMARY:Burke-Gilman 55th Anniversary of the Hike-In
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the Burke-Gilman 55th Anniversary Celebration! \nJoin us to bring attention to the original 50 year old segments of the Burke-Gilman in Seattle. The 1971 “Hike-In” for the Burke-Gilman Trail was a rally on September 12\, 1971\, organized by Merrill Hille and the Burke-Gilman Trail Park Committee to gather public support for converting the abandoned Burlington Northern railroad tracks into a public bike and pedestrian path. Hundreds of people marched along the tracks\, converging at Matthews Beach Park\, where elected officials spoke to an estimated 2\,000 attendees\, marking a turning point in the creation of the trail. \nRegister \nLearn more about our partners Fix the Burke-Gilman here.

SUMMARY:Wildflower Meadow Creation at Discovery Park
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a restoration work party at Discovery Park \nThe south meadow is dominated by mainly 4 exotic grasses. This near monoculture is not great for wildlife habitat. We will be creating a small area devoid of grasses for planting 30 different species of native wildflowers to support our many pollinators and birds. We are using the recommended methodology to create new wildflower meadows according to the Xerces Society and Northwest Meadowscapes. The process will include site preparations\, hauling wheelbarrows of woodchips and planting. \nRegister
